Feel the Burn

I can't think of another year in recent history when I have been happier to see the first signs of Spring. This winter was utterly miserable and the only nice thing I really have to say about winter is that it is making me VERY grateful for spring this year. Milly's walks are getting longer and less miserable, our tulips in our flower beds are blooming more and more each day, and "front porch chillin" has resumed.

Amidst all of these great things is the only rough transition: the losing of the ab coozie. First dubbed by Melissa Daigneault, the ab coozie is the layer of fat that we must gain around our abs in order to keep our abs and vital internal organs from feeling too cold in the harsh winter temps. Now it is time to say bye-bye until next winter. One of the many reasons I'm starting a blog is to hold myself accountable as a track the progress of becoming more active and losing some of my winter blubber.
My first goal: tone arms by April 17th.
I am going to a wedding with Mike and he graciously got me this gorgeous dress for my birthday:
This means, however, that I need to have amazing arms! I got 8-thats right-8 lb weights at Target and I'm doing basically as much as I can to work on my triceps. I do it while I watch TV, and its really not that bad. I'm hoping they'll be lookin decent in a few weeks when the wedding roles around.

Goal Two: Have my jeans be a lil too loose instead of a lil too tight
Yeah, I've totally let myself get to the point where I can still fit in all my clothes but it's all just a littleeee tighter than it used to be. Now. I think it has a lot to do with how much it shrinks in the dryer, but Mike thinks it may have something to do with our Coke consumption.

Goal Three: Drink Less Coke (see that transition there)
Mike and I have developed an INSANE addiction to Coke. Nothing is more refreshing in its bubbly amazingness. If I leave a half-empty one around the apt. you'd think I'd left around a full glass of Cristal the way Mike reacts. It's a hot commodity.

Goal Four: Eat more Fruits n Veggies
I don't have high hopes for this one. I can see myself doing better on my lettuce eating consumption, but when you add in the delicious dressing (though I'm not one for piling it on) you've kind of negated the healthiness. I hate vegetables and I just never get around to keeping any fruits around because it's a rare occassion that I'll ever actually eat it. It's a problem.

Goal Five: Walk/Run with Milly More
Ok so Milly is really lucky if she gets the walk all the way around the block. I have legitimately blamed it on the cold for the last 4 months, but now it's time to kick it into gear. Also, I hate running. I can power walk with the best of them, but running has never been my thing. I am so lucky to live in the Fan where there are great places to run safely (in the daytime) and I should take advantage of it.
Besides, how can you say no to this face?

Eh, I think 5 goals is plenty.

Damsel in a Dress

So, I've given into the temptation. I've started the narcissistic habit of starting my own blog? I wanted a new hobby where I could keep up with my writing, share stories with friends, and have a creative outlet.

First, I had a few hurdles to jump over. What the hell would I write about? I don't have kids (except Milly), I don't have an exciting hobby (except sleeping in on weekends), and I don't have a particular skill that I feel like I should share with the masses. I decided to just relinquish myself to the fact that I'm just going to write about WHATEVER I feel like and not worry about it. Isn't that type of self-indulgent attitude that a blog encourages anyways?

Next, uhhh what do I name it? I'm really bad at thinking up creative, cool, catchy names like so many of my blogging friends have seemed to. I turned to wordlab.com and just searched through words and phrases until I came up with Damsel in a Dress. I thought it was fun because we all know I'm a label whore and I liked the image it conjured up.

So, now, I guess all that's left is to get to the blogging! More to come soon!
